About Calis and Surrounding Areas

Calis BeachFrom the apartment you'll find Calis beach just a five minute stroll away, with its long promenade lined with bars and restaurants serving everything from breakfast (including full English) to evening meals (all tastes catered for), or you can just unwind by the beach with a drink watching the famous Calis sunset over the top of the mountains.

Calis beach is home to the Carretta carretta turtle which can often be spotted in the waters, especially during the early morning when the waters are almost still.  Watching the sunrise over the mountains is a real treat if you are an early riser.  The turquoise blue waters are lovely for swimming and there's generally always a welcome breeze along the beach, especially lovely in high-season.

Nearby you'll find several mini-markets for all your grocery needs, a 'cost-cutter' style shop at the end of the road, and just two minutes away you can catch a local bus (known locally as a Dolmus) - they are very cheap and will stop on demand to pick you up and drop you off anywhere on route. Also nearby you will find many local facilities including tennis courts, places to hire bikes and quad bikes as well as places to book amazing daytrips.

Calis has its own water-park which is a lovely day out (www.sultansaquacity.com), and is just a five minute walk from the apartment, and on Sundays Calis has a local market where you can buy fruit and vegetables, leather goods, T-shirts, souvenirs etc. In addition, Calis has many shops and facilities catering to all tastes.

Calis is a flat area surrounded by hills and mountains, so walking or cycling is a great way to explore the area. Or, for the more energetic, you can go hiking or mountain biking along the pathways of the Taurean mountains and the Lycian Way to enjoy some of the most spectacular views to be seen anywhere in the world (www.Lycianway.com).

The nightlife in Calis is low-key, with only one or two nightclubs, although the bars along the seafront tend to stay open until you finish your evening (even if that's early morning). There are more nightclubs in Fethiye, however the main nightclubs can be found in Hisaronu (about 20 minutes away - you can catch a bus there, and maybe a taxi back, all very reasonable). This is perfect as all holidaymakers are catered for... you have the quiet of Calis, the hustle and bustle of Fethiye, and the nightlife of Hisoranu, all surrounded by the outstanding panoramic views of the Turkish mountains and coastlines.

Turquoise water at Olu DenizFethiye is a lovely quaint fishing village close to Calis. It has a beautiful bustling harbour with a long promenade full of eateries and a town with so much to offer. The amphitheatre in Fethiye is in the process of being restored and is a very popular attraction. Fethiye has its own large market on a Tuesday as well as many shops to suit all tastes, from modern favourites such as Lacoste to traditional Turkish rug shops and quaint tea rooms. There is a large daily fish market, a fascinating museum as well as the historic ancient Lycian rock tombs.

Fethiye can be reached by a short bus ride, or why not take the leisurely water taxi across the bay? – a fantastic way to enjoy the stunning scenery - look for the tombs in the mountains on your journey there.

From Fethiye you can catch a bus to the surrounding areas - just one of which is Olu Deniz, the famous Blue Lagoon (the most photographed beach in Turkey) which is well worth a visit and is a great place to snorkel, hire pedaloes, kayaks and swim in the clear water amid the Babadag and Mendos mountains. Simply stunning!

Along the waterfront in Fethiye, just as in Calis, you'll find lots of places where you can book trips, everything from fishing trips to visiting some of the beautiful sites Turkey has to offer including the Twelve island boat trip, kaya koy (the ghost town), Pamukkale (cotton castle), horse riding, paragliding off Babadag mountain (Olu Deniz), Saklikent gorge, Dalayan mud baths, jeep safaris, Turkish baths, Butterfly cove, Patara beach, the list is endless with something for everyone. You can even take a boat trip over to Rhodes, maybe stay overnight!

The region really has so much on offer and all within easy reach, for every type of holiday,- whether active or relaxing. From sleepy villages to boat trips to visiting ancient ruins, it's all available. The experience of a holiday in this corner of the world will leave you always wanting to return. The Turkish people have a genuine charm and warmth that will make your holiday one to remember.
